Three Key Principles in Content Production

You must try to make your content valuable to the audience. A celebrity educator excels in three aspects of content production compared to others.

1. Simplification

There is abundant information around us, but it is often complex and requires significant time to comprehend. The best criterion for simplicity is understanding it with a single read, without much thought. If our students should read or hear our material multiple times to be understood correctly, then our content needs to be sufficiently simplified.

Simplification also involves the use of more straightforward and more understandable vocabulary. We don’t try to showcase our language to others in our teachings. If we use technical terms, we immediately explain them using the most straightforward words. We should describe each technical and complex idea in a single sentence.

We can simplify the content when we fully understand and master it. Therefore, a reference educator becomes fully knowledgeable about a subject and then proceeds to teach it.

2. Reduction of Volume

Years ago, people were measuring the usefulness of teaching by its length. If you sold a one-hour course for 100 Dollars, the buyer would object, expecting to receive hours of instruction for that price. However, with people becoming busier, the length of education could be a better measure of its quality. If we can teach an essential topic in 5 minutes, we should present it precisely in 5 minutes. The topic’s importance is not its volume but achieving the desired result. Your task is to help your audience reach the desired result quickly and with the least necessary instruction. Reducing education volume without reducing quality is another critical skill of a celebrity educator.

3. Information Coloring

You can prepare a highly nutritious meal, but others may not be willing to eat it. There needs to be more than the nutritional value of food alone. The food should be delicious to make others eager to consume it—even the appearance of the food matters. When you go to a luxurious restaurant, you not only receive delicious food but also the food is beautifully decorated.

The content production also is just like a nutritious meal. To make more people willing to use it, we need to make it more attractive and delicious. This process is called “information coloring.” I coined this term a few years ago. When I was looking to buy a house and visited different places, I noticed that some houses appeared much more attractive despite having similar sizes and constructions. The difference in these houses was only in the beautiful coloring of the walls and the decorations used. Even though both houses may have used the same materials in their construction, a home with better coloring and decoration can be much more appealing.
